The Challenge
Enbridge Gas is the leading distributor of pipeline-grade natural gas across Southern Ontario, supplying over 6 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day and serving roughly 75% of Ontario residents. Managing critical utility distribution infrastructure requires continuous, ultra-reliable energy delivery. To lower overall facility operating expenses, maintain seamless operations, and demonstrate the efficiency of pipeline natural gas for localized generation, Enbridge needed a clean, low-maintenance power plant that could operate smoothly alongside the regional electrical grid.

The Solution
Veristar Energy supports and maintains a 130 kW microturbine energy plant at Enbridge Gas's Burlington facility, featuring two dual-mode-capable C65 microturbines connected directly into the building automation controls.
• Onsite Baseload Generation: Converts pipeline natural gas directly into reliable, high-efficiency electricity on-site to offset facility power demand and reduce utility energy costs.
• Seamless Grid Interconnection: Operates in grid-connect mode to pull supplemental utility power dynamically during peak load periods while guaranteeing continuous, uninterrupted operational power.
• Low-Maintenance Utility Performance: Leverages air-bearing turbine technology with a single moving part - eliminating liquid coolants, lubricants, and high-wear mechanical parts - to ensure long-term uptime.
• Integrated Building Automation: Fully integrated into local BAS controls to optimize output, track system performance, and streamline facility management.

The Results
• Validated Utility-Grade Trust: Project 1 of a multi-site rollout (alongside Enbridge’s Kingston facility), demonstrating long-term confidence in Veristar Energy's microturbine service and system reliability.
• Lower Operational Overhead: Reduces peak electrical demand and total facility energy purchases directly behind the utility meter.
• High Uptime & Uprate Continuity: Maintains continuous baseload generation with minimal operational downtime or routine maintenance intervention.
• Demonstrated Natural Gas Efficiency: Highlights the financial and operational benefits of localized microturbine generation for major industrial energy leaders.
