The Challenge
Set across 60 acres in rural Leverett, Massachusetts, Juggler Meadow is a premier 120,000-square-foot estate comprising eight distinct structures—including a 25,000-square-foot main residence, a 55,000-square-foot spa and indoor water park, climate-controlled car barns, guest homes, and expansive event venues. Located in a tranquil rural area without access to municipal natural gas or adequate grid utility infrastructure, the compound required complete energy self-sufficiency. The estate needed a reliable, ultra-quiet, off-grid power generation plant capable of supporting massive continuous electrical loads and heavy thermal demands (for domestic hot water, pool heating, and space heating) using liquid propane.
The Solution
An off-grid microturbine energy plant featuring two Capstone C65 microturbines was deployed to function as the primary standalone power and thermal generation source for the multi-building estate.
• Autonomous Off-Grid Power: Generates over 500 MWh of clean electricity annually in stand-alone mode, completely independent of the municipal power grid.
• Liquid Propane Adaptation: Specially engineered to run on liquid propane gas (LPG), delivering clean, high-efficiency combustion in remote locations where utility natural gas is unavailable.
• Multi-Building Thermal Recovery: Captures 860,000 BTU/hr of exhaust waste heat, distributing hot water across the estate’s hydronic loops to supply space heating, domestic hot water, and pool/spa heating systems.
• Ultra-Quiet & Discrete Operation: Operates with minimal noise and virtually zero vibration, preserving the quiet ambiance of the luxury compound.
The Results
• Uncompromising Energy Independence: Provides seamless 24/7 power resilience and thermal energy for complex residential and event infrastructure without relying on local grid stability.
• Proven Off-Grid Performance: Demonstrates continuous, long-term reliability in an islanded configuration, supported by Veristar's ongoing technical service since 2014.
• High-Efficiency LPG Utilization: Maximizes total propane fuel efficiency by converting exhaust heat into usable thermal energy, significantly lowering overall fuel consumption.
• Clean & Low-Maintenance Generation: Features oil-free air-bearing technology, minimizing scheduled maintenance while maintaining ultra-low exhaust emissions across the 60-acre estate.
